Space Elevators?

Personally, I don’t even like going up really high elevators, especially those that are made of glass, but I have to admit that I am curious about an elevator being created by some intelligent folks at Cambridge University. That’s because this particular creation, is a space elevator. Yeah, I know it sounds like something out of the Jetsons, but it’s for real! The Space Elevator is in the planning stages, however has received a four million dollar research grant from NASA.

The goal of the team is to change space travel, by using a recently discovered technology that allows for the creation of a carbon device that is both incredible strong but lightweight, and able to stretch incredibly distances. The team believes they can make a “space elevator” that will allow for space tourism, and perhaps one day even a safe way to reach Mars. It sounds crazy, and I hope to hear more about it in the future!

Bluetooth Shopping Tips

With the popularity of bluetooth headsets going trough the roof, more and more people are flocking to stores to buy one of their own. However, many people don’t know what to look for in a good bluetooth headset, so I thought I’d write up a few tips.

Here are my recommended points to consider:

Cost

Obviously we all have different budgets and price considerations, but you can certainly get a quality bluetooth headset for a low price.

Comfort:

The device should be easy to put on and remove
The control buttons should be easy to find, press and work with
Perhaps most important, the device should be comfortable to wear
Usually lightweight headsets will be more comfortable when worn for long periods of time

Usability:
The volume should be easy to adjust
The features are all simple to use and can be used quickly

Features
Long battery life is essential, and should usually be a top consideration
The device should be compatible with your current phone and future phones that you are likely to purchase. Forgetting this could lead to purchasing a device that is soon useless to you
Sound quality should be tested to ensure clarity

What IS Koobface?

I’ve heard the word “Koobface” multiple times this week, and you probably have to. Well, after having my curiosity piked, I’ve done a little research into what exactly “Koobface” is, and have to say, it’s a little scary! So what’s a Koobface (by the way, it sounds like a name my three year old would call someone)?

Well unfortunately it’s a computer virus that is being spread through every body’s favorite social network — Facebook. It’s being spread through the Facebook messaging systems, and while Facebook seems to have squashed the virus, that will be of little help to anyone already infected. FYI, Facebook says that a very small amount of its user base has been exposed.

However, If you ARE infected by Koobface, your computer and internet browser may be redirected when you try to use a popular search engine, like Google or Yahoo. So, if you notice yourself being redirected to unsavory websites, you may have contracted the Koobface virus, and should take care of that via anti software tools immediately.

Go Daddy Takes On Ebay

Go Daddy is moving in kind of an unexpected ans surprising direction, as it turns out the name registrar company is set to launch an online marketplace, similar to that offered by auction giant eBay. Perhaps Go Daddy feels that they can give eBay a run for their money, as many o’ eBay sellers have been displeased with recent price hikes by the online auction company.

While the new Go Daddy marketplace certainly won’t be free, it will be quite a bit cheaper than eBay for those who plan to list many items. That’s because Go Daddy users will be able to list limitless amounts of items for a low five dollar monthly fee, as well as a ten percent commission on all sales. While the low cost is impressive, it will be interesting to see if Go Daddy can bring in the amount of buyers than eBay does, in order to receive high bid prices.

Are Nokia Laptops On the Way?

When I think of mobile phones, I think of Nokia. And when I think of Nokia, I think of mobile phones. Seriously, it feels as though I’ve been using Nokia as my mobile phone of choice for centuries. That’s why, I was most surprised today to read that Nokia is considering dabbling in a new market for them — the laptop market.

When I started to think more about it, it sort of makes sense. I mean, it seems like every big tech company is trying to come out with a cell phone these days (Apple, Google, Dell), which takes more and more away from Nokia’s market share. So why wouldn’t they try to even the score?

Right now the potential Nokia laptop offering is just a frequently repeated rumour, but it will be interesting to see what, if anything, they do develop for the laptop market.
