It seems like there is always a card-worthy holiday just around the corner. For instance, we just celebrated Mother’s day a week or so ago, and now I already see father’s day cards and presents popping up in stores. However, while there are some funny cards out there, store bought cards usually aren’t very personal, and so I like to buy customized cards online.
I am always impressed a the huge selection of cards there are online these days, and just how many ways they can be altered to become the perfect card for any occasion. For example, there are these photo Christmas cards that can make an ordinary Christmas card a special gift to be kept and treasured. I am considering something similar as a Father Day card, as it’s something that my Dad would probably enjoy quit a bit more than just a regular old card!
The internet brings us some truly unique experiences, that we would have never had access too before. Evidence of this is shown, as there is a webcam set up that live broadcasts the hibernation of an extremely rare Kermode bear in BC Canada.
The camera has been installed by a local couple in the town of Rosswood BC, and after a year of dealing with technical issues they have it live streaming over the web. The bear is a rare “Kermode” bear which has a genetic condition that causes its hair to grow in white or cream, even though it is of the black bear family. These bears are very rare, and so the web broadcast of one has become extremely popular. It’s pretty amazing stuff, and is only possible due to the far reaching influence of the internet!
Some people just seem to have steely nerves like few others! Eric Scott, a daredevil out of Denver is certainly one of these individuals. You see, Scott has just accomplished a unique feat like no other — he used a jet pack to fly across the Royal Gorge In Colorado. The pack was fueled with hydrogen, and propelled Scott approximately fifteen hundred feet over the gorge.
What made this event particularly dangerous is that the jet pack is still in the testing stages, and can only run for approximately thirty three seconds — so Scott had to move fast! The pack was designed in Denver by Eric Scott, and can reach speeds topping seventy MPH. Oh, and if you’re wondering about the gorge? It’s an over one thousand feet free fall to the bottom.
If you know me, then you know that I just love the iPhone and its many applications. I mean, there truly is a app for just about anything you can think of! The possibilities are endless. Lately I’ve been trying out a few different fitness related apps, and have to say that I’m having a great time with them. The apps I’m liking the best are actually free and made by a company called ITMP, so if you want to drop a few pounds you might consider them.
The apps are neat as they provide an analysis of various factors when you’re working out. For example, you can set them to track data such as calories burned, fat burned, heart rate and so on. It’s neat because I use my iPhone not only to listen to music while I work out, but also I have the app running to let me know just how productive my workout has been. Cool huh?
Personally, I don’t even like going up really high elevators, especially those that are made of glass, but I have to admit that I am curious about an elevator being created by some intelligent folks at Cambridge University. That’s because this particular creation, is a space elevator. Yeah, I know it sounds like something out of the Jetsons, but it’s for real! The Space Elevator is in the planning stages, however has received a four million dollar research grant from NASA.
The goal of the team is to change space travel, by using a recently discovered technology that allows for the creation of a carbon device that is both incredible strong but lightweight, and able to stretch incredibly distances. The team believes they can make a “space elevator” that will allow for space tourism, and perhaps one day even a safe way to reach Mars. It sounds crazy, and I hope to hear more about it in the future!
